What is Sitecore?

Sitecore. Sounds familiar? Yes... No. In this piece we look at what Sitecore is, why you need as a content author and where it stands out from other CMS tools

Sitecore is a CMS i.e. Content Management System - that allows users - often known as content authors to manage websites without having to involve developers. Needless to say, Sitecore is a tool that factors in people who are not that tech-savvy but who would still want the capability to manage websites.
Sitecore is your go-to Experience Platform. For the past ten years, it has led the Gartner Magic Quadrant. We'll soon explore what sets it apart from the competition.

Before that, who should use Sitecore? If you are a developer, content author, or marketing associate, then Sitecore is for you. Before you start exploring, the Sitecore community is a well-established platform that can assist with any obstacles in your learning journey. Be sure to follow them and ask questions.

Sitecore Journey

Sitecore began in Denmark as a straightforward CMS, designed to enable content authors to update their web properties without needing developers. This was revolutionary at the time. Sitecore quickly gained traction in the tech industry, being one of the few options on the .NET platform that offered detailed control over functionality and interface. Content authors could—and still can—customize both the visitor-facing interface and their own, allowing control over every aspect of its functionality. Eventually, Sitecore made its way to the USA, where increased demand led to the development of more tools and features. As a result, Sitecore evolved from a simple content authoring tool to one utilized by marketing professionals.
